Tom Hanks Is Right

Dear Editor: 

Last week, Sandra J. Smith respectfully rejected my call to give President Trump a chance…because she doesn’t respect Donald Trump. 

There is probably a lot that Sandra and I agree on when it comes to Donald Trump, the person. I didn’t ask anyone to like or respect Mr. Trump but I do think Americans should respect the office he holds and the enormous responsibilities that come with it. If the president is successful, we all benefit. 

Eight years ago, Rush Limbaugh infamously declared, “I hope he fails.” “He” being our new President, Barack Obama. After the 2016 election, Tom Hanks –who ardently opposed candidate Trump– said, “I hope the president-elect does such a great job that I vote for his re-election in four years.” 

I side with Mr. Hanks on this one.
